Thick Rug Pad
Thick Rug Pad for Area Rugs

A thick rug pad for area rugs should do a few things. Not all thick rug pads can protect rugs and floors. There are a few specific qualities that perform as they should.

A Thick Rug Pad Should Protect the Back of a Rug
The backs of area rugs can get a lot of stress and wear by rubbing against a hard floor. A thick rug pad should be able to prevent this premature wear by adding a layer of protection to the back of the rug. The thick rug pad should be dense enough to resist the wear that a rug can experience by preventing the back of the rug from being pushed down against the floor.

A Thick Rug Pad Should Reduce Stress to the Rug Pile
When a rug is walked on, the pile, or fibers, are easily crushed. The more dense the thick rug pad is, the more resistant it will make the fibers to crushing. If a spongy rug pad is under a rug, then the pile of the rug does not have much help in resisting crushing.
